The aim was to have a hardy, very adaptable meat goat that could survive the harsh conditions of the African landscape while still maintaining high birth rate, high survival rate and a profitable meat carcass. Emphasis was also put on mothering traits and adaptability. The so-called Kalahari Reds were born, named after the colour of the sand in the Kalahari Desert.

The dominant red/brown colour of the Kalahari Reds makes the goats very suitable for cross breeding programs to improve the colour of the indigenous goats. DNA tests conducted found a great genetic divide between the Kalahari Reds and other South African goat breeds.

We are successfully farming with Boer Goats in South Africa. By means of careful selection, we are only using the best breeding stock to produce animals with high survivability, fertility and mothering abilities, calm disposition and adaptability, able to thrive under harsh conditions and with low quality food sometimes inevitable in a semi-desert area. Our goats are very healthy, robust with a medium bone structure and a lot of meat on the carcass.

About 63% of the red meat consumed worldwide is goat! What is so special about goat meat? Many people with digestive problems require a careful diet. The molecular structure of goat meat is different than that of other meats, therefore, goat meat digests more easily. It is also a low fat, good tasting alternative to chicken or fish. The Boer goat influence changes the taste of the meat to a milder, more veal-like flavour.
